Sant Joan
2012
Description
Each year, on June 23rd and 24th a great celebration is being held. On Saint Johns day it's a kind of Middle Ages in the city, there are also medieval jousts organized. This fiesta is very important and an old tradition, they ride on horses in the city. This festivity takes place in the city of Ciutadella on the island of Menorca, Spain.
The celebrations of Sant Joan has recently become much more than a local festival, all the visitors have a lot of admiration and love for these celebrations but about the island inhabitants and in particular the “ciutadellencs” –the inhabitants of Ciutadella– you can better talk of passion, drive and boundless enthusiasm.
I am a "ciutadallenc", I love Sant Joan and this is my humble tribute.

- Sant JoanTributeIn Ciutadella, on the island of Menorca, every 23rd and 24th of June, a traditional celebration has been uninterruptedly held for centuries.
During the festival of Saint John, its patron saint, the city transforms itself. It is like going back to the Middle Ages: a cavalcade representing the social classes of the time goes around the old city centre, jumping and jolting to the sound of music through a mass of people. Even medieval jousts are organized… and thousands of visitors join the locals for the biggest fiesta ever. Therefore, this celebration has recently become much more than a local festival.
Certainly, visitors show a lot of admiration and respect for this event. But as for the inhabitants of Ciutadella –“ciutadellencs”, you can better talk of sheer passion, drive and boundless enthusiasm.
I am born here, I love Sant Joan, and this is my humble tribute.
